Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it important to perform regular washes, and to use the correct soap?

- It is vital to wash your boat regularly , because metals corrode, wood gets damaged, gel coat and fiberglass deteriorate. By washing away all the salt and scum after every use will greatly increase the longevity of the boat.

- Choosing the appropriate soap will also help with the longevity of the waxes, sealant’s , and or coatings that may have been applied prior. If your boat has been waxed, you want to find a soap that protects existing wax and sealant such as Smoove “Purplelicious”.

-Ceramic coated boats need a soap with SiO2 which is the main active ingredient in ceramic coatings to leave behind a thin layer of protection and recharge your boats coating after every wash. Bubble bath by YACHTE.

How often should I wash my boat?

- We recommend once a week, if boat is in the elements or on the water. Most of our customers prefer every two weeks, because it either is expensive on the budget and/or time. This ensures that the salt and debris has been removed. The boat should be properly sealed and waxed every three to four months to ensure longevity of gel coat/paint.

- Boat ownership can be stressful, but if you wash your boat and conduct regular maintenance, it can be smooth sailing.

Boat detailing refers to the process of cleaning, restoring, and preserving the appearance and condition of a boat. It involves a thorough cleaning of both the interior and exterior surfaces, including the hull, deck, cabin, upholstery, carpets, and various components of the boat.

Boat detailing typically includes several tasks such as:

  1. Washing: This involves using specialized marine-grade cleaning products to remove dirt, grime, salt, and other contaminants from the boat's exterior surfaces.

  2. Polishing and Waxing: Polishing is performed to remove oxidation, swirl marks, and minor scratches, restoring the shine and luster of the boat's gel coat or painted surfaces. Waxing is then applied to protect the boat from UV rays, water spots, and environmental damage.

  3. Interior Cleaning: The interior of the boat is thoroughly cleaned, including the upholstery, carpets, windows, and other surfaces. Stains, dirt, and debris are removed to ensure a clean and fresh appearance.

  4. Metal and Chrome Polishing: Metal components such as railings, cleats, and fixtures are polished to remove corrosion and restore their original shine.

  5. Teak Cleaning and Treatment: If the boat has teak wood surfaces, they are cleaned, sanded (if necessary), and treated with appropriate sealants or oils to maintain their beauty and protect them from the elements.

  6. Engine Compartment Cleaning: The engine compartment is inspected and cleaned to remove any dirt or debris, ensuring proper functioning and reducing the risk of damage.

  7. Canvas and Upholstery Care: Boat covers, bimini tops, and upholstery are cleaned, treated, and protected to maintain their condition and extend their lifespan.

  8. Glass and Window Cleaning: Windows, portholes, and hatches are cleaned and polished to provide clear visibility and enhance the overall aesthetics of the boat.

Boat detailing helps to preserve the boat's appearance, protect it from environmental damage, and maintain its value. It requires expertise, specialized tools, and knowledge of marine-specific cleaning products to ensure thorough and effective cleaning without causing harm to the boat's surfaces.
